What are Feng Shui Colours and Shapes?

Colours have a powerful effect on your mental and physical state. Were you aware that the colour of your room can affect your health and productivity?

We use colours in Feng Shui Decorating to create balance and harmony within the building. Each room has an affinity with an Element which is identified in the Feng Shui Consultation. Other Elements need to be introduced to fit the nature of the energy in the room to its use eg Feng Shui Bedrooms need to be calm. One way of introducing the Elements is through Colour and another is through Shape.

The balance of the Elements within a building or garden creates natural order. By looking at which Elements are present or are needed in any given area we can introduce Feng Shui Colours and Shapes to help create balance and harmony.

Each of the 5 Elements is represented by both a Feng Shui Colour and a Feng Shui Shape:

Wood is represented by varying shades of green or wood grain effects and tall tree-like shapes such as pillars or towers.

Fire is represented by shades of red, orange and pink and triangular, point or pyramid shapes.

Earth is represented by earthy colours such as yellows, beiges and creams. In China the earth is much more yellow than here. The shapes for Earth are square, rectangular or cube.

Metal is represented by white and metallic shades and the shapes are semicircular or domed.

Water is represented by reflective surfaces and shades of blue, black and grey and irregular curvy shapes especially flowing like a river or like a kidney.

By using our knowledge of Feng Shui and how this relates to the colours we can optimise energy flows and bring harmony within the building. We can also increase or decrease the amount of energy in a room.
